In order to claim a Medicare rebate for consultation visits you will need a current GP referral. GP referrals last 12 months. A referral from a medical specialist or surgeon lasts 3 months. The secretary of the cardiologist you are seeing will let you know if your referral is valid or whether you need a new one. We prefer patients to email a referral in advance.

This allows us to ascertain the most appropriate diagnostic test you may require.

It is important to bring your Medicare card, credit card, current referral together with a list of your medications or the medications themselves. Any further previous diagnostic imaging such as chest x-rays, ECGs (particularly if done in the last 2 years), cardiac ultrasounds or letters from previous cardiologists and coronary angiogram reports are useful. Please bring these along with you to your appointment.

If you are having a treadmill test or a transthoracic echo it is good to wear clothing that is easy to get on and off e.g. separates rather than a dress.

Ultrasound includes applying gel to the chest. An ultrasound probe is then applied to the chest to see pictures of the heart. ECGs and treadmill tests include applying ECG dots to the chest (sometimes requiring shaving of excess hair). Pain is minimal.

We endeavour to get results to our GPs within 48 hours. This is a typed letter which contains your results as well as a copy of the results, if appropriate.

Please ask this question when you book your appointment. You will qualify for a rebate on tests if you have a current Medicare card. There are restrictions on some cardiac diagnostic tests by Medicare. For example, some tests are only rebatable every 2 years.

We are not a bulk billing practice.

Please ask for the secretary of the relevant cardiologist. If no appointment is booked they will be happy to book you in for the next available appointment. We also have a cancellation list.

We do telehealth by arrangement. This is often more appropriate for follow up patients than new patients. It is at the discretion of each cardiologist.

Our appointments are 30 minutes. Cardiac diagnostic tests such as cardia ultrasound (echocardiograms), stress tests and exercise stress echoes are up to 45 minutes.

Private health funds in Australia cover inpatient care. They do not cover specialist or GP visits. However you may qualify for a rebate from Medicare, if your test is rebatable and you have a current Medicare card.

Payment must be made at the conclusion of the visit. We accept American Express, Mastercard and Visa cards. We also accept cash and cheques.
